Shame on you. I can't believe you were arrested for:
DUI, carrying a concealed weapon and wreckless driving! You of all people. The man that wrote that inspiring song 'Letters from Home'! Shame on you John Michael Montgomery! :) Tim and April

We chatted in Eureka in early October. Thanks for the tape, good stuff. I am still writing songs and slowly learning to play the guitar. Watching you so effortlessly play gives me hope. I look forward to seeing you when you are next coming to town...was that March-06? Please let me know when, as I may be able to get a story on it just prior to your arrival.

Thanks for your time and talent,

Ron Thunman-Eureka, Ca.

Hi John, you were a fine musical guest at our house in Wijtschate, Belgium. You can come and go as you like but your music stays. Thanks for that.
America should send out his singer-songwriters instead of his soldiers... The world would be a better place!

Watching John at Common Grounds in Crescent City, CA (March 16, 2005), I was struck by the wistful passion he displayed. The lyrical depth and word descriptions reminding me of Leonard Cohen, while the stories within the songs, sometimes short and intense like a Tom Waits diddy, or epic like a Dylan song that has you anticipating how the story is going to end. As I listened, John's songs had a way of allowing me to drift from the story he was singing to my own story, like a good song will. He truly captures so well those very personal experiences that words alone couldn't illustrate, combined with tunes that range from haunting to that "down home" beat. You can't help feeling his heat when he closes his eyes and sings with that half-smile on his face like he's doing exactly what his journey is calling him to do; makes you feel kind of like you are supposed to be there listening. Can't wait for his next album (really hoping it includes "Strawberry Blonde") and his return to our forest retreat. Thanks John.

Dear John, I was at your show Friday, 2/13 in Ojai at the Brew House. I wanted to thank you for making a tough night bearable. Your music moves me and I love your melody. I would love to know when you will be playing on the Westside. It would be great to see you again. Also, I know this may sound kookey - and hope I am not insulting you, but my girlfriend is getting married in May and she is desperate to find a good band to play at her wedding - a rather hip and relaxed affair. Do you have any suggestions of who I could call that could put together a small number of players that have soul? Thank you, Karen

Allison Miller - Tue, May 3rd, 2005 3:40 PM PDT
I love your first CD...the melodies, instrumentation, and voice are all beautiful and accessible, the lyrics are poetic, mysterious and sensual. This music will get regular airtime on my radio show, for certain!

I own a bookstore in Santa Monica (Angel City Books) and received John Montgomery: One Step Away as a gift. At the store, I am able to play my choice of music for 8-10 hours a day--what a luxury! Upon receiving John's CD, I played it constantly, 8 hours straight! Everybody loved it, all my customers wanted to know who it was and how they could get it. Since that day, I play One Step Away at least once, or twice a day, and always seem to sell more books when it is playing--thanks John for a great CD!
